Buckwheat is commonly mistaken as a cereal grain, however, it is actually a fruit seed, which makes it ideal for gluten free products. Buckwheat has a unique triangular shape which is similar in size to wheat kernels. The outer hull must be removed, but the difficult shape requires specialised milling equipment. With a wide variety of health benefits, Buckwheat's protein and fibre content makes it a popular gluten free alternative to other wheat. It is often served as a rice alternative, in salads or as a porridge.
